Let me tell you how I found my way into the beauty business.  Rewind a few decades and there I was 19 years old, thumbing through a Vogue magazine. On one of the last pages, in this tiny square ad, was a listing for a makeup school in Toronto. That's the moment when my career plan changed. I sent away for the packet of information (no Google or high speed internet in those days) and in January 1991 I was heading over the bridge to Canada. It was an amazing time learning with students that traveled from as far as Iceland, Cypress, and Australia. I came back to Michigan ready to take on the world with my makeup brushes. At that time, there was not a lot of opportunities for makeup artists in the mitten. I put makeup on whoever would let me and enrolled in Wayne Starr School of Cosmetology. Bam! It was like peanut butter met chocolate! I loved doing hair as much as I did makeup. Fast forward through assisting two wonderful stylists, three different salons, working at hair shows, photo shoots or any makeup opportunity that came my way, acquiring skills, and building a clientele. And here I am today, still as giddy about this career as the bright eyed, twenty year old me. Owning a salon with my husband Scott (the cutie in the pic below)m Bliss Republic Salon in Plymouth, MI. Happily working side by side with people that inspire me to learn and grow. I genuinely like being in the salon with my regular clientele but will always jump at the chance to go on-site for photo shoots, weddings. and events!
